The most comprehensive set of weekly power rankings anywhere on the web now moves to the rookies, as we look at our top offensive and defensive first-year players.

Offensive Rookie Power Rankings

1. Sammy Watkins, Buffalo Bills

Sammy Watkins has stepped up and is the main reason why Kyle Orton has been effective as a passer. He’s now the focus of opposing defenses so we’ll see if his numbers drop, but right now he’s the Bills No. 1 target. Watkins has been worth the compensation that the Bills traded to get him in the draft.

2. Kelvin Benjamin, Carolina Panthers

Kelvin Benjamin fell out of the top spot, mainly due to him not being a factor until games are out of hand. He’s a remarkably talented player, but he needs to refine his route running. The good news for Benjamin is that his 659 receiving yards leads all rookies as does his seven receiving touchdowns.

3. Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

There hasn’t been much to cheer about in Tampa this season, but Mike Evans is doing the most with pretty much the least at quarterback. Evans is tied for the rookie lead in touchdown receptions with five and all five have come in the past five games. Evans has surmounted Vincent Jackson as the team’s No. 1 receiver.

Defensive Rookie Power Rankings

1. Aaron Donald, St. Louis Rams

Aaron Donald can’t be blocked by one man and he’s already one of the most dominant players at his position in the NFL. Donald helped hold the Arizona Cardinals to just 28 yards rushing on Sunday afternoon.

2. Anthony Barr, Minnesota Vikings

Barr leads all rookies in sacks and has already made big plays including a scoop and score in overtime to beat the Buccaneers. Barr and the Vikings were on a bye Sunday but return next week to face the Chicago Bears in Soldier Field.

3. C.J. Mosely, Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens’ middle linebacker is keying Baltimore’s defensive turnaround as he’s leading the team and all rookies in tackles with 90, which ranks him fourth in the NFL. Mosely also has a pair of interceptions and nine passes defensed, and his presence has made former second-round pick Arthur Brown expendable.

The Buccaneers made the definitive admission of their error on Saturday, cutting Aguayo. He exits with $428,000 in fully-guaranteed salary [more]
