QUARTERBACKS

Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers, $8000 KC @ GB

Rodgers has made it look too easy this year.  He carved up Seattle last week for two touchdowns and 249 yards, while being very efficient (completing 25 of 33 passes).  He’s now entering a matchup at home where he faces a Kansas City team that just gave up three touchdowns to Peyton Manning last week, and two touchdowns to Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallet in Week One.  Don’t overthink this.  Just play the best quarterback in the game when he has a favorable matchup.

Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks, $7000 CHI @ SEA

If you are waiting for Russell Wilson to turn things around this year, look no further than his Week Three matchup versus the Chicago Bears.  The Bears sport a horrible pass defense again this year, which was evident in what Aaron Rodgers did in Week One (18 for 23, 189 YDS, 4 TDS, 35 YDS rushing), and Carson Palmer did in Week Two (17 for 24, 185 YDS and 4 TDs).  Those two stat lines are very similar to each other, and show me that teams are very efficient in the passing attack against the Bears. Throw in that Wilson will get advantageous field position since the Bears now have Jimmy Clausen at QB.  You can expect big things from Wilson in Week Three.

Blake Bortles, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars, $5100 JAX @ NE

Bortles finds himself on this list as the cheap option to play this week because of two main reasons. First, Bortles looked sharp in Week Two, taking down Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins in Jacksonville last week.  The pieces around him in Jacksonville with T.J. Yeldon, Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns and the return of Marqise Lee have made things easier on Bortles, and the success last week showed just that.  The other piece here is that they are playing the Patriots.  No, this isn’t the case of a good matchup.  In fact, the Patriots do well against the pass and are not favorable for opposing QBs.  I mention the Patriots because of Tom Brady. He’s going to put up a lot of points against the Jags, which is going to lead to Bortles having to throw the ball most of the time this week.  That, mixed in with the possibility of garbage time, will lead to a lot of opportunities for Bortles to put up big fantasy numbers in New England in Week Three.

RUNNING BACKS

Le’Veon Bell, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers, $7500 PIT @ STL

Enter stage left, the very fresh and eager Le’Veon Bell.  Bell is back from his two-game suspension, and landing on the top of my list this week as your best high-dollar option at RB.  For those of you who forgot what Bell looked like last year, do a quick YouTube search and watch those highlights.  He’s a patient runner who has vision, speed and makes people miss.  Bell is also great out of the backfield, and not just a check down option for Big Ben, but a threat in the passing game when matched up with a linebacker.  Bell and the Steelers face a tough defense in the Rams this week, but St. Louis did not fair well against the Redskins’ running game last week, which was a main reason the Rams lost in Week Two.  Alfred Morris and Matt Jones combined last week for 182 yards and two touchdowns, on 37 attempts.  The Steelers have a better running game and passing game than the Redskins do, leading me to believe that Bell and his owners will be all smiles in Week Three.

C.J. Anderson, RB, Denver Broncos $ 6200 DEN @ DET

I just traded for Anderson in a league, and I’m ecstatic because he’s a great buy-low target. Anderson has been battling a toe injury, and with 10 days of rest after playing on Thursday night, there’s no better time for him to show he’s healed and a Top 10 play in fantasy this year.  Why is this week such a great week for Anderson?  Because he’s facing a horrible Detroit Lions rush defense.  In Week One, Detroit was rushed on 26 times, which led to 93 yards and two TDs.  In Week Two, Adrian Peterson ran the ball 29 times for 134 yards.  Teams are obviously game planning to run the ball to beat the Lions, and it’s working.  I’m expecting Gary Kubiak to have a similar plan for the Broncos, and for Denver to score between four to six TDs as a team.  It’s still Anderson’s running back job to lose in Denver, and he cements his status with triple-digit all purpose yards and at least one score in Week Three.

Latavius Murray, RB, Oakland Raiders, $5800 OAK @ CLE

Running backs have had success against the Browns in the first two games.  In Week One, the Browns were rushed on 32 times for 153 yards and two TDs.  And last week, Titans running backs combined for over 100 yards rushing.  Murray is a focal point of the Raiders offense, being the every-down back in the running game, and he’s also utilized in the passing game where he has had the third-most receptions and targets on the team.  Murray is good for at least 50 yards on the ground, 25 in the air, and I’m betting at least one TD, which would make him a great play in Week Three against Cleveland.

Jonathan Stewart, RB, Carolina Panthers, $4800 NO @ CAR

Jonathan Stewart is the workhorse for a Panthers team that features the run as their best asset on offense.  Stewart had a solid game last time he faced the Saints, where he had 155 yards and one touchdown.  And this week he faces a Saints defense that let Arizona Cardinals RBs run for over 100 yards and a touchdown in Week One, and then had the Tampa Bay Buccaneers run the ball 29 times for 116 yards in Week Two.  The Panthers will plan to run the ball in order to keep Drew Brees off the field, which will pave the way for Stewart to have a break out Week Three.  Stewart is my best low-price option at RB this week.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Antonio Brown, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers, $8900 PIT @ STL

There are only a handful of players who, regardless of how much they cost or what matchup they have, almost have to be played.  Antonio Brown is on that list as he faces a stout St. Louis Rams defense in Week Three.  Brown has 18 catches this year for 328 yards, averaging an insane 18.22 yards per reception.  Watching him play just makes everyone on defense look like they are in slow motion at times.  I said this about Aaron Rodgers and I’ll say it again: Play the guy who is elite at his position at the peak of his career.  The time is now for Brown; he’s worth every penny in Week Three.

Randall Cobb, WR, Green Bay Packers, $7300 KC @ GB

Randall Cobb is on this list because Aaron Rodgers is the best in the game, and Cobb is his top target. Expect to see them a lot on this list throughout the year.

Davante Adams, WR, Green Bay Packers, $5000 KC @ GB

I’m not a Green Bay Packers fan, I’m just constructing my roster and it just makes sense at each spot to grab Aaron Rodgers and his top options.  I contemplated putting Kendall Wright here just for the sake of not having a Green Bay heavy preview, but why would you not lean on Adams over someone like Nelson Agholor, Eric Decker or Wright, who are all the same price on Draft Kings this week? Adams is banged up, but I feel really good he suits up Sunday, and makes his first TD catch of the year.  Adams looked very impressive prior to his ankle injury, just like reports out of camp had been indicating.  You’d expect a passing attack to be in a bad spot when a guy like Jordy Nelson goes down, but Adams is going to become a household name by the end of this year with Rodgers throwing him the ball.  Adams grabs his first touchdown in Week Three and has a big game.

Donte Moncrief, WR, Indianapolis Colts, $4800 IND @ TEN

The Colts face the Tennessee Titans this week, who are coming off a loss to the Cleveland Browns.  Johnny Manziel made us all smile last Sunday, showing off “vintage Manziel” with two deep touchdown passes.  This is the same Johnny Football that has now been benched in favor of Josh McCown.  Enter Andrew Luck, a QB in a different galaxy than McCown and Manziel.  Luck is all over our televisions right now, with analysts asking “what is wrong with Andrew Luck and the Colts?”  Well, the offensive line looks leaky and Luck looks like he’s just trying to do too much with the ball.  It doesn’t help that Andre Johnson hasn’t made a huge impact yet, and that T.Y. Hilton has an ankle injury and is not as explosive in his routes.  This leads me to my best low-price option at WR this week, Donte Moncrief.  He leads the Colts this year in receptions (13), yards (168) and touchdowns (2).  The Colts have still thrown the ball the fourth-most in the league with Luck completing 47 of 86 passes.  It has to happen eventually, so why not this week being the Colts’ first big week in fantasy.  I would expect a heavy dose of Andrew Luck, and I don’t see any reason why he doesn’t give Moncrief a hefty amount of chances to make big plays in Week Three.

TIGHT ENDS

Rob Gronkowski, TE, New England Patriots, $7400 JAX @ NE

Gronk is on the same list right now as Aaron Rodgers and Antonio Brown.  And he will stay here until he has a bad game. Brady is just one slot below Rodgers this week, and I fully expect the Gronk-Brady bromance to continue.  They are as competitive as any two guys in the league, and they are about to put on a clinic against the Jaguars.  Brady shows Bortles how it’s done, and connects for another Gronk smash in Week Three.

Jimmy Graham, TE, Seattle Seahawks, $5800 CHI @ SEA

This is funny: Graham is the second-priciest option at TE in Draft Kings this week, and is still $1,600 cheaper than Gronk.  That shows how much it costs you to draft Gronk in this league.  But, that’s besides the point.  Graham has done poorly in his new home of Seattle this year.  Reports suggesting he is “pissed” with his usage in a Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch dominated offense.  This is the week to bet on Seattle putting up big numbers.  Facing a Bears defense that is horrible against the pass, I am expecting big things out of Graham.  Russell Wilson is a smart guy, and will make sure to look Graham’s way to keep their newly acquired star tight end happy.  Triple figure receiving yards and at least one TD is happening this week for Jimmy Graham.

Owen Daniels, TE, Denver Broncos, $2900 DEN @ DET

Daniels is someone who’s being dropped in regular fantasy leagues since he lost the confidence of owners.  It’s only two games folks, relax.  Every reason I was high on Daniels before the season, is still a reason to like his odds of being successful in Denver this year.  Peyton just tossed three TD passes last game, and seems to have his mojo back.  Now, Daniels and the Denver offense faces a Detroit Lions defense that has let other tight ends have good weeks so far this year.  In Week One, the Lions let Chargers TE Ladarius Green catch five balls for 74 yards and a touchdown.  And in Week Two, they let Kyle Rudolph of the Minnesota Vikings catch five balls for 30 yards and a touchdown.  Daniels is on an offense led by Manning, who had a lot of success throwing to the tight end position over the last few years.  This is a good week for Daniels to catch his first touchdown of the year.  A super cheap option that is a great play in Week Three.

DEFENSES 

Houston Texans $3200 vs. TB

Tampa Bay has two rookie offensive linemen who start and have looked shaky up front to say the least.  Now enter J.J. Watt.  Line issues for the Bucs will lead to Watt sacking Jameis Winston out of his shoes on Sunday, leaving the young rookie in a tough spot to deliver the ball efficiently.  Expect a few turnovers to go in the favor of the Texans defense with a good matchup against Winston and the Buccaneers.

New York Jets $3000 vs. PHI

The Jets shut down Andrew Luck and the Colts, and have proved they are one of the top defenses in the league.  Now facing a Philadelphia Eagles offense that has looked horrible to this point, I think the Jets will make Eagles fans start really thinking that Chip Kelly may just be mad.  While I still think Philly will get things together this year, they will not right the ship by facing the Jets in Week Three.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers $2500 @Hou

Predicting the Bucs to have a good Week One versus Marcus Mariota and the Titans burned me.  Then, I got burned in Week Two when I predicted the Saints and Drew Brees would explode against the Bucs in the Superdome.  Maybe I should just rest on talking about the Bucs defense.  But, I’m right back at it and picking them as a good play as a cheap option at defense in Week Three.  They aren’t just a cheap option; they are the cheapest option at D/ST in Draft Kings for Week Three.  So really, what do you have to lose in playing them?  You can fill up your roster at other positions since you saved money on defense by playing the Bucs.  The Bucs have solid players on defense with Lavonte David and Gerald McCoy.  The Texans, without Arian Foster and possibly without DeAndre Hopkins as he goes through concussion protocol, aren’t a force to be reckoned with on offense, and that’s why Tampa Bay finds themselves on the list this week.
