Per a source, former LSU Tigers running back Kenny Hilliard will be working out with the Houston Texans on April 5th and 6th. Hilliard was both an invitee to the East-West Shrine All-Star Game and the NFL Scouting Combine after finishing his career in Baton Rouge. Hilliard is vying to be the ninth Tigers’ running back to gain a 1,000 yards in a single season in the NFL.

Hilliard played in one of the most talented (and crowded) backfields in the nation. Posting modest numbers his senior season with 431 rushing yards and six touchdowns, he is a force in short-yardage situations with the ability to break tackles and pick up tough yards. Recently at his Pro Day, he ran a 4.60 40-yard dash and posted a 29” vertical at 6-foot-2 and 223 pounds.

Texans head coach Bill O’Brien worked for the New England Patriots from 2007-2011 and served as their offensive coordinator in his final year with the team. That same year the Patriots’ drafted former LSU running back Stevan Ridley. It also coincided with Kevin Faulk’s final year with the Patriots (another LSU running back).

Coaching staffs do show some tendencies to draft players’ from certain schools. It is possible O’Brien is going to take a liking to Hilliard more than some other prospects available. Take note that current Texans’ running backs Arian Foster (6-foot-1, 227 pounds) and Alfred Blue (6-foot-3, 223 pounds) have nearly the same exact measurements of Hilliard.
