Junior Galette loses his marbles on Twitter after being told of release:

Linebacker Junior Galette hasn’t handled his release from the New Orleans Saints as well as you might hope. Typically, showing a level of class and maturity after being told that your employers are moving in another direction is a good way of showing your next potential employers that you’re, I don’t know, at best mature and the least sane.

Galette is very talented, and someone is likely going to give him a chance to play in the league this season, despite of the video tape which has surfaced of Galette striking a woman repeatedly with a belt, during a large fight on a Miami Beach, and Galette’s unhinging this week.

Galette, after deleting his Twitter account, decided to jump on his girlfriend’s Twitter account and make some shocking claims about some of his former teammates, and head coach Sean Payton. Galette accused Payton of showing up to team meetings drunk and holding training camp in West Virginia because, Galette claims, Payton has a girlfriend there.

Galette also hinted that other teammates could have been gay, and mocked another about the player’s wife having an affair. Galette also got into it with former teammate Will Smith who chimed in after Galette’s initial outburst.

Seriously, who wants this in their locker room?

Mike Pettine says no guarantee McCown starts Week 1:

While most are speculating that the Cleveland Browns will start the season with veteran quarterback Josh McCown under center, Browns head coach Mike Pettine says that nothing is set in stone as the team gets set to start training camp.

Johnny Manziel still has to prove he’s gotten his head on straight and that he can handle himself in an NFL offense, but ultimately if the Browns are to be successful in the near, and possibly long-term future, it must be with Manziel at quarterback.

While Pettine won’t rule out Manziel getting the opening week start, he admits that McCown’s familiarity with offensive coordinator John DeFilippo has McCown out in front.

“I would say there is (separation),” Pettine told the assembled media Monday, via Cleveland Plain Dealer. “Josh’s skillset is very different than Johnny’s. … Having been with Flip (DeFilippo) before, he’s that much further ahead.”

There’s going to be an opportunity for Manziel to prove he can lead this team, but the team will go into camp with McCown getting the first-team snaps early on.

“The repetitions will (still) be handled that way, with Josh as the one,” Pettine said while meeting with beat writers. “Now, I wouldn’t say I’m guaranteeing today that Josh McCown is going to be the starter against the Jets. A lot can happen in a preseason. If guys are getting the two’s reps and all of a sudden they’re playing really well and the guy with the starters, you’re maybe not pleased with  — and you start to mix those reps as we go on.

“At all positions, it’s a fluid situation. But for now, if we had a game this weekend, he’d be the starter, but I’m not going to commit beyond that.”

McCown is a great leader and a team guy, and he’ll be behind Manziel when the time comes to give the young quarterback the opportunity to take the reins. Whether it’s Week 1, late in the season, or in 2016, it only makes sense for the Browns to give Manziel another chance to prove he can make it at this level after investing a 1^st-Round pick on him in the 2014 NFL Draft.

For all of the positives McCown brings to Cleveland, his play in Tampa Bay a season ago was poor. Yes, the Buccaneers had no offensive coordinator and an awful offensive line, but when McCown was given time, he displayed awful decision making.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers give Da’Quan Bowers another shot:

Just a handful of days before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers report to training camp, the team has signed Da’Quan Bowers to a new contract, bringing the defensive end back to the team where he’s played all four of his NFL seasons.

At one point during his career at Clemson, Bowers was considered a sure fire first-round draft pick, for some, even a top-10 talent. After the discovery of a degenerative knee issue, Bowers stock fell, and the Buccaneers landed Bowers in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

While there was some hope that Bowers would be the steal of the 2011 draft, his NFL career has been underwhelming, with Bowers recording only one fewer passes defended (6), than sacks, (7) during his four seasons and 50 NFL games.

Bowers re-joins a defensive end group without a top-tier pass rusher. Tampa Bay’s best pass-rusher is defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, but the Buccaneers will need to get more pressure out of defensive ends like Bowers, George Johnson, Will Gholston, Larry English, and Jacquies Smith if the Bucs defense is going to take a step forward in 2015.

Johnson and Smith will likely start outside for the Buccaneers with Bowers, Gholston and English trying to prove they can get pressure as part of a rotation.

There’s some thoughts that Tampa Bay may consider kicking Henry Melton outside from time to time as well. The Buccaneers will certainly have to get creative to get pressure this season, because they don’t have a ton of explosive talent at defensive end.
