Jaguars Draft Needs: Edge/Leo, Linebacker, Wide Receiver, Safety and Cornerback

Jaguars Selections:

Round 1- 3rd Overall

Round 2- 36th Overall

Round 3- 67th Overall

Round 4- 103rd Overall

Round 5- 139th Overall

Round 6- 179th Overall

Round 7- 220th Overall

Good Fits Early:

Leonard Williams- Leonard Williams is not only the best defensive player in the draft, he’s the best football player in the draft. Williams can play all over the defensive line and although the team already has Jared Odrick and Tyson Alualu, you can’t pass on a talent like Williams if he’s available when the Jaguars go on the clock at pick No. 3.

Vic Beasley- Many mocks point to the Jaguars selecting Dante Fowler, Jr. if Williams isn’t on the board. Fowler could become a great player, but Vic Beasley is a great pass rusher and he fits the Leo position to near perfection.

Eli Harold- If the Jaguars grab Williams in the first round or a wide receiver, they will likely address the Leo position in Round 2. Harold’s primary focus will be to rush the passer and with the talent that Jacksonville is collecting all over their defensive line, he will have a great chance to succeed.

Don’t be surprised if: The Jaguars select a wide receiver, namely Amari Cooper with their third-overall pick. Jacksonville addressed the position last season with Marqise Lee, Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns, but they still lack a real No. 1 threat. Cooper or Kevin White could be that guy to grow with quarterback Blake Bortles.

Potential Late Round Targets:

David Cobb- The former University of Minnesota running back runs very strong between the tackles and will immediately compete for the wide open starting running back job with Denard Robinson, Bernard Pierce and Storm Johnson.

Jamison Crowder- The Jaguars missed out on a slot receiver in free agency and they really don’t have a player with a lot of suddenness. Crowder was another ultra-productive collegiate without playing with anything resembling an NFL quarterback at Duke.

Hau’oli Kikaha- The former Washington defensive end could be a nice fit for the Jaguars Leo position. Kikaha doesn’t figure to be a starter, but he’s a hard working young man who can help on special teams and in pass rush situations.

For the Jaguars draft to be considered successful, general manager Dave Caldwell has to hit with a pick in the Top 5 or else….the team will select there again. If you do it too many times then a different GM makes the selection. The Jaguars will be making their third Top-3 pick in as many years and Luke Joeckel looks terrible and Blake Bortles flashed, but had more bad plays than good.

To put it simply, Dave Caldwell needs to get this one right.
