The Dallas Cowboys resisted the urge of drafting a running back and strengthened their secondary as they added former UCONN cornerback Byron Jones.

“Byron Jones is a very good player who played on a very bad team.  I’m not sure what the broad jump translates into on the football field, but Jones broad jumped longer than any human in history.  That alone should get him drafted in the first round.  With the early draft failure’s of Morris Claiborne and Mike Jenkins, the bar has been set pretty low in Dallas.”- Charlie Bernstein

“Byron Jones is one of the best athletes in the NFL Draft, and a guy the Cowboys can certainly use. Jones is a corner who can also play safety, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Cowboys play him at safety to start his career. The Cowboys need help at pass rusher and in the defensive backfield, but with the depth on the edge, it’s no surprise to see them address the defensive backfield first.”- Pat Donovan

“Some people think Byron Jones is just a ‘Combine Guy’ who leaped up the boards thanks to freakish athleticism, but I really like this pick for Dallas. They needed help at cornerback and they got it. Look for a running back pick to come in the second round.” – Alex Hickey

“Once it became abundantly clear that the top running backs weren’t going to be available here, it was obvious the Cowboys were going defense and they addressed by far their biggest need with an instant upgrade to the secondary. Byron Jones leaped into our hearts and minds with a Combine performance for the ages, but this is no workout wonder. Jones is a tall corner with excellent instincts and the athletic ability to become a ball hawk. I could even see the Cowboys moving him to free safety, which he played before moving to corner in college, if they elect to keep Brandon Carr. Either way the weak link in the Dallas defense just got a lot stronger.” – Devon Jeffreys
