Carson Wentz Has A Broken Rib

Find out how long Carson Wentz will be out.

Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz left Thursday’s preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers holding his mid-section.

“If you were watching the game the other night, he took a shot – [it was] like [the] next-to-the-last play – got up a little bit slow,” Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said. “So, he’s just sore today. [We] just wanted to protect him, so he didn’t throw.”

After he missed Saturday morning’s practice, concern grew.

“I think it was the next-to-the-last play of the game he got hit pretty hard on the right side, stayed down on the ground for a while – just sore,” Pederson updated. “[It] bothered him to throw a little bit, [but] he’s fine. He’ll get treatment on it and he’ll be back out tomorrow.”

Just a few minutes ago Eagles head coach Doug Pederson issued this statement:

“Carson felt some discomfort and soreness as we began this morning’s practice,” Pederson said. “We decided to limit him throughout the remainder of practice and, as a precaution, sent him for a CT scan after practice. The scan revealed a hairline fracture in his ribs. We do not know an exact timetable for his return, but we hope to have him back before the end of the preseason.”

This isn’t that big of an issue as it would be in Los Angeles, where No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff is truly expected to compete for the starting job.  Wentz is expected to “redshirt” this season anyway, but it would certainly benefit him and the team to get a few more snaps during the preseason.
