In one of the most predictable trades in NFL history, the Denver Broncos dealt left tackle Ryan Clady to the New York Jets.

Denver has agreed to trade four-time Pro-Bowl OT Ryan Clady and a 7th-round pick to the Jets for a 5th-round pick, league sources told ESPN.

To make the deal work, the Jets restructured Clady’s deal to just $6 million in 2016 with an option for $13 million in 2017.

New York had a major hole at left tackle after D’Brickahaw Ferguson surprisingly retired on Friday afternoon.  If healthy, Clady will fill that hole and at his best he’s actually an upgrade over Ferguson.

Health is certainly a question mark with Clady.  He missed the entire 2015 season with a torn ACL and has missed 30 of a possible 48 games over the last three seasons.

The injuries forced Denver to move forward with free agent offensive tackle Russell Okung, who signed a long term deal with the team that included just $5 million in guaranteed money.

In summation, Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan deals his second fifth-round pick for a veteran star. Last year he sent a fifth to the Chicago Bears for wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who caught 109 passes for 1,502 yards with 14 touchdowns helping New York to 10 wins.  Maccagnan now sends another fifth for what could be a Pro Bowl left tackle.

The move clears almost $9 million of cap space for the Broncos, who now have a little more ammunition if they’d like to continue to pursue a trade with the San Francisco 49ers for quarterback Colin Kaepernick. For a player they were going to be forced to release, the team ended up receiving a fifth-round pick.
