KIRKLAND, Wash. – The time for Russell Wilson to land a new contract with the Seattle Seahawks is running out.

Wilson’s self-imposed deadline to become one of the NFL’s top-paid players is Friday. There were no major developments towards ending the impasse early Thursday.

If the two sides don’t reach a contractual agreement, Wilson will be paid $1.54 million this season in the final year of his four-year rookie contract. He is seeking a deal that would pay him upwards of $20 million this season.

Wilson, who has quarterbacked the Seahawks to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, is believed to have requested a deal averaging $25 million per year. Such a deal would make him the NFL’s highest-paid player.

Seattle players reported to training camp on Thursday and begin practicing on Friday.
