A horse owned by NFL free agent wide receiver Wes Welker won a major race in England on Saturday.

Undrafted, a 14-1 shot ridden by Frankie Dettori, raced to victory by a half length over Brazen Beau, the 7-2 favorite, in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on the final day of the meet.

“I can’t believe I didn’t make the trip over! Can’t believe we won! @gatewoodbell and Wesley Ward #bestinthebiz,” Welker said on Twitter.

The 5-year-old horse, which was named to reflect Welker not being picked in the 2004 NFL Draft, was trained by American Wesley Ward. The win was Ward’s first in a Group One race in England.

“This is the biggest race I’ve ever won, including Breeders’ Cups and everything,” Ward said. “He’s been training great, he really has, and Frankie just has the magic touch. He’s a magical guy, a real go-getter as we’d say.”

Undrafted charged past Brazen Beau in the final 100 yards for the win.

“I saw him, I didn’t want to kick too soon; I was going well,” Dettori said. “I saved the last bit for the end and it proved me right.”

Welker, 34, spent the past two seasons with the Denver Broncos and last year had 49 catches for 464 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games. In 10 NFL seasons with the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and Broncos, he has 890 receptions for 9,822 yards and 50 touchdowns.
