Vikings add WR Whalen to roster
The Sports Xchange
The Minnesota Vikings signed free agent wide receiver Ryan Whalen on Saturday to fill a spot on the team’s 90-man roster in training camp.
Whalen played for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2011 to 2013 before he was waived during the 2014 preseason. The Vikings had a roster opening after linebacker Casey Matthews was placed on season-ending injured reserve last week.
In 17 regular-season games for the Bengals, Whalen had 11 receptions for 80 yards and added six tackles on special teams. He was a sixth-round draft pick by Cincinnati in 2011.
Whalen was with Cincinnati when Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer served as the Bengals’ defensive coordinator.
