Seahawks re-sign Jeanpierre with Unger out

The Seattle Seahawks re-signed center Lemuel Jeanpierre and signed defensive tackle Travian Robertson off the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad, while releasing offensive tackle Andrew McDonald and safety Steven Terrell.

Jeanpierre was released at the start of the season with an injury settlement due to a neck injury and was eligible to be re-signed this week. It came at a good time for the Seahawks, who are without Pro Bowl center Max Unger for several weeks due to ankle and knee injuries, with backup Steven Schilling already on injured reserve.

Jeanpierre is expected to immediately compete for the starting job with Patrick Lewis, who was signed off the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad earlier this season but struggled when replacing Unger in last Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jeanpierre spent the past three seasons with the Seahaawks, making three of his eight career starts last season in place of an injured Unger. However, getting him up to game speed in time for Sunday’s home game against the Arizona Cardinals will be a challenge.

Robertson was a teammate of Jeanpierre’s at South Carolina, and has played in 12 games over the previous two seasons. He was released after training camp this year and joined the Falcons’ practice squad on Aug. 31. The Seahawks are seeking help along their defensive interior following the season-ending hamstring injury suffered by Brandon Mebane.
