Reports: Quinn, Kyle Shanahan set to lead Falcons

Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn soon will be the Falcons’ head coach, and former Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan will run Atlanta’s offense, according to multiple media outlets.

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported that Quinn is expected to take the Atlanta job once the Seahawks’ season ends at the Super Bowl on Feb. 1. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Falcons are privately saying that Quinn will be their next head coach.

Quinn will interview again for the Falcons’ head-coaching vacancy on Monday, according to ESPN.com.

The Falcons apparently are willing to wait for Quinn, who already met with them once but is now preparing his defense to face the New England Patriots after Seattle won the NFC Championship Game in overtime Sunday.

Atlanta already twice interviewed Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin for the head-coaching vacancy.

Shanahan is set to join the Falcons before Quinn arrives, according to Rapoport, ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pro Football Talk. The Browns and Shanahan parted ways Jan. 8 after reports surfaced that friction between the coaching staff and front office became an issue.

Shanahan reportedly interviewed for the Buffalo Bills’ head-coaching vacancy before the job went to Rex Ryan.

Quinn, 44, said earlier he wasn’t concerned with teams that didn’t want to wait for him to become available.

“I’m so fortunate to be a part of this organization and to be here with this group of guys. I’m having a blast; I really am so no hard feelings, no disappointment in any way,” Quinn said Thursday. “I can’t say it enough of how fortunate I am to be a part of this group.

“I had a great time going through the process. What a wonderful opportunity to get to talk to people, but I’m in a great situation. Now that we’re back here, the focus is back here for the game and what a great challenge we have ahead of us.”
