Reports: Cowboys, Seahawks pursue DE Hardy

Free agent defensive end Greg Hardy, who could be facing an NFL suspension after missing 15 games last season, is being pursued by the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks.

The Cowboys are hosting Hardy on Tuesday after losing out on a bid for defensive end Michael Johnson. Dallas could also lose defensive ends George Selvie and Anthony Spencer in free agency after taking major hits last offseason, when defensive tackle Jason Hatcher joined the Washington Redskins and defensive end DeMarcus Ware, released in cost-cutting move, signed with the Denver Broncos.

The Seahawks are known for chasing edge players who can get to the quarterback. Former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn felt the Super Bowl changed for the worse — from a Seahawks perspective — when pass rusher Cliff Avril was ruled out in the third quarter with a concussion.

Hardy played in the season opener in 2014 and made $13.1 million under the franchise designation. The 26-year-old was arrested and charged with assaulting and threatening to kill ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder in May and was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list in September. He has an 18-month probationary sentence but all charges were dropped Feb. 9.

Hardy has 34 career sacks, including 15 in 2013.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also interested in Hardy.

Still on the exempt list, Hardy is subject to NFL discipline and reportedly is set to be suspended for multiple games — and as many as six — with the league reviewing facts of his case.
