The Green Bay Packers announced Monday that they will retire former quarterback Brett Favre’s number at Lambeau Field on Thanksgiving night against the Chicago Bears.

The team also said longtime general manager Ron Wolf will be honored Nov. 15 against the Detroit Lions. He will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August.

“The Packers are fortunate to have had many great players and general managers in our storied history. You would be hard pressed, though, to name any that have had a bigger impact on the organization than Brett Favre and Ron Wolf,” team president Mark Murphy said. “It is fitting that they will be honored in the same season, since they teamed together to return winning football to the Packers in the ’90s.”

The ceremony honoring Favre was reported last week by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The game, which will be aired by NBC, is the prime-time main event in the tripleheader the NFL has put on for several years.

Favre will be inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame on July 18 and last year postponed a ceremony at Lambeau Field due to health concerns for longtime Packers quarterback Bart Starr.

“Again, my career in Green Bay, I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” Favre said last summer. “It was awesome. The people were awesome, and I just think everything’s going to be fine, and in my opinion, it is now. It’s just a matter of getting back up there.”

Favre owned the division rival Bears as a member of the Packers and later with the Minnesota Vikings. He was 22-10 in 17 seasons, including 12-3 at Soldier Field.

The Packers have played one home game on Thanksgiving Day, a win in 1923 against the Hammond Pros.
