The NFL is investigating a possible case of domestic violence involving Washington Redskins rookie wide receiver Jamison Crowder.

The Redskins released a statement to FOX Sports on Thursday, saying, “The Washington Redskins are aware of an off-field situation involving Jamison Crowder. We have been in touch with the NFL office and will continue to follow proper league protocol and assist them in any way we can to gather all of the facts. We will not be making any further comment at this time.”

The NFL told FOX Sports, “The team has been in touch with our office and we are looking into the matter.”

The investigation apparently was spurred by a picture on Crowder’s Instagram page showing a woman with a cut lip and bruises on her body. The images are accompanied by a post apparently written by the woman, who says, “I refuse to let you hurt me anymore physically or emotionally” and references being choked, bruised and “tossed around” and suffering a concussion and “busted lips.”

Washington drafted Crowder in the fourth round out of Duke.
