Quarterback Brian Hoyer will be watching with interest as the NFL’s text-message investigation involving the Cleveland Browns’ front office unfolds.

“For me, I’m looking forward to see what comes out of that,” Hoyer said Saturday.

According to reports, the league is investigating whether Browns general manager Ray Farmer sent text messages to quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains in the press box and a team employee on the sideline during games last season about strategy and presonnel, which violates NFL rules.

Farmer could face a suspension and the Browns might lose a draft pick as possible sanctions, according to multiple reports.

Hoyer is scheduled to become a free agent in March and said he’s open to returning to the Browns next season.

“To read the stories and see what’s going on, I’m just as interested as you guys are to see where that comes out, especially because when you read it has to do with the quarterback situation and play-calling,” Hoyer said. “That’s something that could affect how I feel about it.”

Hoyer started the first 13 games last season and the Browns had a 7-4 record before struggling down the stretch.

The Browns handed the starting job to rookie Johnny Manziel for a late-season game against the Cincinnati Bengals, which Cleveland lost 30-0. Manziel was dogged by issues on and off the field during his first season.

Last week, a Manziel representative said the quarterback went into rehab to reassess his personal values.

“It takes a big person to take those steps,” Hoyer said. “I’m hoping for the best for him.”

Hoyer expressed disappointment over the news that Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon was suspended at least for one year for a failed drug test.

The Gordon news came not long after the Browns lost offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan after one season on the job. He resigned with two years remaining on his contract.

“You don’t just leave a job to leave,” Hoyer said in regard to the turmoil engulfing the franchise.

Whether Hoyer leaves is yet to be determined. He has a 10-6 record as the Browns’ starter, the only Cleveland quarterback to post a winning mark since 1999.

“I’m from here. Would it be great to stay here? Sure,” he said. “But if it’s not the best place to be at this point in my career, I’m going to have to make tough decisions.”
