LANDOVER, Md. — Washington leaned on its defense and backup quarterback Kirk Cousins to lift the Redskins to a 41-10 victory over Jacksonville, but the celebration was muted based on the likely serious injury suffered by quarterback Robert Griffin.

After the game, head coach Jay Gruden said Griffin suffered a dislocated left ankle. Griffin will undergo tests on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. Initial reports suggest Griffin could miss at least eight weeks.

“It happened before I threw the pass,” Griffin, whose ankle was heavily wrapped, said after the game. “Anytime you look at your ankle and it’s (pointing) a different way, you’re not going to try to get up.”

“No player is irreplaceable, including me,” he added.

Wide receiver DeSean Jackson also was injured. Gruden said Jackson separated the AC join in his shoulder and will have “tests.” Jackson said he thinks he will be able to play next week.

Griffin hurt his left ankle as he tried to avoid Jaguars linebacker Paul Posluszny along the Washington sideline on a 19-yard completion across his body to Jackson with 8:57 left in the first quarter.

Griffin was down for several minutes and was carted to the locker room in obvious pain.

On Washington’s next play, Jackson injured his left shoulder while being covered by Jaguars safety Josh Evans. Jackson managed to walk to the locker room but his day was over.

Packers 31, Jets 24

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers rode the dynamic duo of Aaron Rodgers and Jordy Nelson and a resurgent defense to victory over New York Jets at Lambeau Field. Rodgers threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns, with 209 of the yards going to Nelson, as Green Bay avoided an 0-2 start.

The defense, meanwhile, gave up 100 yard and seven first downs in the second half after being torn to shreds for most of the first half. The Packers, who trailed 21-3 and were on the verge of getting blown out at home late in the first half, rallied to a 31-24 lead with 2:08 to play in the third quarter.

Broncos 24, Chiefs 17

DENVER — Peyton Manning threw for three touchdowns and Denver’s defense stopped Kansas City’s game-tying drive just short of the goal line at Mile High Stadium.

Manning completed 21 of 26 passes for 242 yards in his fourth consecutive regular game with at least three scoring passes and no interceptions, tying Tom Brady’s NFL record set in 2007. Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith finished 26 of 42 for 255 yards.

The Chiefs, who lost three starters to injury in a season-opening loss to Tennessee last week, were again hit hard by injuries. They lost star running back Jamaal Charles and safety Eric Berry to ankle injuries in the first half, a week after losing linebacker Derrick Johnson and tackle Mike DeVito to Achilles’ tendon injuries.

Rams 19, Buccaneers 17

TAMPA, Fla. — With starting quarterback Sam Bradford out for the season and backup Shaun Hill nursing a thigh injury all week, the St. Louis Rams put their offense in the hands of Austin Davis, an undrafted free agent who entered the year third on their depth chart.

He wasn’t spectacular, but he got the job done, leading the Rams to victory at Raymond James Stadium. In his first career start, Davis finished 22-for-29 with 235 yards.

Texans 30, Raiders 14

OAKLAND, Calif. — Running back Arian Foster rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for two scores, and Houston defeated Oakland at the O.co Coliseum, spoiling the Raiders’ home-opener.

Foster carried 28 times and cracked the 100-yard rushing mark for the second consecutive game. Fitzpatrick, who beat the Raiders in 2011 when he was with the Buffalo Bills and in 2013 while with the Tennessee Titans, completed 14 of 19 passes for 139 yards with no interceptions. Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, doubling as a tight end, caught his first career NFL pass, good for a 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

Chargers 30, Seahawks 21

SAN DIEGO — Antonio Gates’ three touchdown catches lifted San Diego over Seattle at Qualcomm Stadium. Philip Rivers clicked with Gates for two scoring receptions of 8 yards and one of 21 yards. Gates finished with seven receptions for a team-high 96 yards.

Rivers was 28 of 37 for 284 yards and the three scores to Gates. Russell Wilson threw for two touchdowns and Percy Harvin scored on a 51-yard scamper for the Seahawks.

Browns 26, Saints 24

CLEVELAND — Billy Cundiff kicked a 29-yard field goal with three seconds left Sunday to lift the Browns to a 26-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints in a wild back-and-forth game a. FirstEnergy Stadium.

With Cleveland trailing 24-23, quarterback Brian Hoyer led the Browns on an 85-yard, 14-play game-winning drive. The Browns took over with 2:46 left from their own 4-yard line.

Hoyer completed a fourth down pass to tight end Gary Barnidge for 10 yards, a key 13-yard pass to wide receiver Miles Austin and a 28-yard pass to wide receiver Andrew Hawkins to set up Cundiff’s heroics.

Bengals 24, Falcons 10

CINCINNATI — Andy Dalton passed for 252 yards and a touchdown and Mohamed Sanu had three catches for 84 yards and a touchdown, lifting Cincinnati to a victory at Paul Brown Stadium.

Running back Giovani Bernard rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown and while adding 79 yards receiving to help Cincinnati extend its home winning streak to 10.

Cardinals 25, Giants 14

East Rutherford, N.J. — Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton, who was pressed into making his fifth career start this week after starter Carson Palmer was unable to throw the ball, didn’t exactly light things up the scoreboard at MetLife Stadium, but he didn’t have to.

The Cardinals scored on their first two drives of the game and the Giants defense imploded while the offense stumbled. Stanton, who was sacked four times by the Giants, finished 14 of 19 for 167 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in his first start since 2010.

Patriots 30, Vikings 7

MINNEAPOLIS — After being embarrassed in the second half in a loss to Miami last week, New England’s defense reappeared in a big against Minnesota at TCF Bank Stadium.

The Patriots intercepted quarterback Matt Cassel four times — setting up 17 New England points — and limited a Vikings ground game without star running back Adrian Peterson to only 54 yards on 19 carries in a 30-7 rout of Minnesota at TCF Bank Stadium.

Bills 29, Dolphins 10

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins paid early dividends for Buffalo, who defeated Miami at sold-out Ralph Wilson Stadium. Buffalo, which has beaten its AFC East rivals three consecutive times, is 2-0. Miami dropped to 1-1.

Watkins, the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, caught eight passes for 117 yards and his first NFL touchdown — a 12-yard pass from EJ Manuel. The Bills also received a big boost from their special teams, which produced a touchdown on C.J. Spiller’s 102-yard kickoff return, five field goals by Dan Carpenter and a blocked punt that set up a score.

Panthers 24, Lions 7

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Quarterback Cam Newton engineered two touchdown drives of 70 or more yards in the second half as Carolina overcame a sluggish offense to win at Bank of America Stadium.

Newton, making his season debut after sitting out the opening victory at Tampa Bay because of injured ribs, connected on 22 of 34 passes for 281 yards. Kicker Graham Gano was perfect on three field-goal attempts and also recovered a fumble for the Panthers.

Cowboys 26, Titans 10

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — What DeMarco Murray started, Dan Bailey finished, as the Cowboys went into L.P. Field and defeated Tennessee.

Murray accounted for 121 of his 173 total yards and his lone touchdown in the first half, with Bailey finishing Dallas drives with field goals of 44, 48, 48 and 52 yards. The Cowboys cruised to a 16-0 lead at the break, and were threatened only briefly in the third quarter behind a one-man effort from Tennessee tight end Delanie Walker, who finished with 10 catches for 142 yards.
