The Indianapolis Colts released veteran guard Donald Thomas and waived 11 players Monday.

The Colts signed Thomas, 29, to a four-year, $14 million contract in 2013 but he had a history of injury problems. He tore his right quad and left biceps in Week 2 in 2013, causing him to miss the rest of the season. Thomas’ 2014 season ended when he tore the same quad in training camp.

Thomas has played in 45 games (23 starts) over his eight-year NFL career with Indianapolis, New England, Detroit and Miami. He was originally drafted in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

The Colts waived guard Harland Gunn, linebackers Nicklas Haag, Zack Hodges and Justin Shirk, tackle Tyler Hoover, wide receivers Ryan Lankford and Ezell Ruffin, defensive tackle Jeris Pendleton, tight end Justin Sinz, running back Abou Toure and center randon Vitabile.

The team also placed cornerback Tevin Mitchel on the injured reserve list and waived-injured cornerback Donald Celiscar. If Celiscar clears waivers, he will revert to the Colts’ injured reserve list.

With the moves, the Colts reached a 76-man roster. The team has until 4 p.m. ET Tuesday to reach the league-mandated 75-man roster.
