The Atlanta Falcons reportedly released quarterbacks Rex Grossman and T.J. Yates on Friday.

Grossman, 35, had signed with the team Aug. 26 but apparently didn’t show enough to beat out Sean Renfree for the No. 2 job.

Renfree, a seventh-round pick in 2013, will replace Yates in that role.

Yates had signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal to stay in Atlanta in March. He had come to Atlanta in a trade with the Houston Texans in June 2014.

He spent his first three NFL seasons with the Texans, completing 101 of 166 passes for 1,100 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions.
