Safaety LaRon Landry was released by the Indianapolis Colts two years into a four-year, $24 million contract signed in March 2013 after a Pro Bowl season with the New York Jets.

Landry, who has been plagued by injuries in his career, played in 23 of the Colts’ 36 games with 18 starts. He turns 31 during the 2015 season.

The Colts also waived inside linebacker Andrew Jackson and offensive tackle Xavier Nixon on Wednesday.

The Colts touted the signing of the 6-0, 220-pound muscle stack as a culture change for the defense. Last offseason, the Colts lost safety Antoine Bethea as an unrestricted free agent to the San Francisco 49ers.

“We feel LaRon is an absolute game changer and a true impact player. We’re talking about a 220-pound safety that runs 4.3 and plays to that speed,” general manager Ryan Grigson said in 2013.

Landry played for the Jets in 2012 and before that was with the Washington Redskins (2007-2011).
