Colts assess Wayne’s elbow injury

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne could miss one to two games after injuring an elbow during the 27-0 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

The injury, which occurred in the first quarter, isn’t believed to be serious, but the Colts were still reviewing test results on Tuesday. Wayne is hoping he doesn’t have to miss any games.

The longtime Colts receiver was injured when he was hit by Cincinnati cornerback Adam Jones and braced himself while falling to the turf.

Wayne had four catches for only 15 yards and two drops against the Bengals.

“I’m good now,” Wayne said after Sunday’s game. “I just kind of fell on it, fell on my arm. Go home, have an adult beverage and see how it feels in the morning.”

Despite Sunday’s meager output, Wayne became the ninth player in NFL history with 14,000 career yards. He’s 5 yards behind James Lofton for eight all time.

If Wayne is unable to play, part of the workload might go to wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, who was acquired in the offseason and has 17 catches for 141 yards and two touchdowns for Indianapolis.

The Colts travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers on Sunday.
