San Diego Chargers running back Danny Woodhead, recovering from surgery last year, said he is healthy and eager to get started with the offseason workouts starting Monday.

Woodhead suffered a season-ending injury to his fibula and right ankle in Week 3 last year.

“I feel really, really good,” Woodhead said, according to the team’s website. “I really do. As far as the injury goes, that is something I’m not even thinking about. I’m thinking about trying to get better. I’m focusing on working on what I can do to be better than I was last year. Obviously I wasn’t able to play a lot of games, so I should say I want to be better than I was that first season here.”

The 5-foot-8, 200-pound Woodhead is the Chargers’ best pass-catcher out of the backfield. In 2013, his impressive totals of 605 yards on 76 catches with six touchdowns came in his first season with the Chargers. He also rushed for 429 yards on 106 attempts with two touchdowns that year in 16 games.

“It’s been a long process,” Woodhead said of his rehab. “But definitely it makes you hungrier when the game is taken away. It makes you realize how blessed you are to play it. Not that I didn’t understand that before, but when it is taken away for such a long amount of time, it makes you even hungrier. You miss being out there with your brothers. I’m excited for this season. I’m always excited, but my mentality might even be younger and hungrier than ever before.”
