San Diego Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said “it’s our plan and intent” for Philip Rivers to remain the team’s quarterback.

“It’s the same thing I’ve said for the last four months: Philip’s our quarterback and it’s our plan and intent that he’s our quarterback well into the future,” Telesco said Wednesday.

Rivers’ future with the Chargers is in question after reports that he has declined a contract extension because he is wary of the team’s possible move to Los Angeles.

“I’ve been crystal clear what our plan and intent are. I don’t know what else to say,” Telesco said. “He’s our quarterback. And hopefully for many, many years moving forward. I think he’s got a lot of good years left in him. Through eight games last year, he was an MVP candidate, so we are thrilled to have him.”

Telesco brushed off speculation that the Chargers might try to move up in the draft to select Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. The Tennessee Titans draft No. 2 overall, and some have speculated that the Chargers might try to trade Rivers to the Titans in a package that nets San Diego the No. 2 pick.

The Chargers, who select 17th overall, worked out Mariota recently, but Telesco said he was just doing due diligence.

Rivers, 33, has been the Chargers’ quarterback ever since replacing Drew Brees in 2006, setting numerous club records and approaching many of Dan Fouts’ marks while climbing the NFL charts. The five-time Pro Bowl quarterback has thrown for 36,655 yards, 252 touchdowns and 122 interceptions. His 95.7 rating ranks sixth in NFL history.
