The Buffalo Bills signed veteran kicker Billy Cundiff to the 53-man roster on Wednesday to compete with erratic Dan Carpenter.

Kickoff specialist Jordan Gay was released to clear roster space for the well-traveled Cundiff.

The Bills also signed wide receiver Denarius Moore, a former Oakland Raiders player, and released returner Mracus Thigpen.

Carpenter missed a 30-yard field goal attempt on Sunday in the Bills’ 24-10 loss to the New York Giants. He has struggled since the preseason while dealing with several injuries, missing two of his seven field goal attempts and an extra point try in the first four games.

The 35-year-old Cundiff, who was with the Cleveland Browns for the past two seasons, will handle kickoff duties for the Bills. As a field goal specialist, he also has had trouble recently, failing on seven of his 29 attempts.
