Bills Ryan enjoyed London, but not the game

ORCHARD PARK, N. Y. — By all accounts, Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan enjoyed his time in London up until game day, which did not go well.

Not only did the Bills lose to Jacksonville, but they experienced some frustration with the in-game communication system, and Ryan was hot about it afterward.

“I don’t get it, I don’t understand it,” Ryan said. “But this one was absolutely miserable. I mean, it’s unacceptable is what it is.”

The Bills were relegated to having offensive coordinator Greg Roman yelling the plays to quarterback EJ Manuel, who often had to run over to the sideline to hear the calls.

“I wouldn’t say it was the entire game,” Ryan said, “but it was a majority of the game. It was unbelievable. Had everything … static, you couldn’t hear anything.

“A frustrating time obviously in those circumstances. That’s why you saw EJ having to come and run over to get the call with Greg trying to yell it into him quite a few times.”

–Wide receiver Sammy Watkins has endured a frustrating, injury-plagued season to date, and he let it get the best of him Tuesday. After reading criticism from fans about his inability to stay healthy, Watkins made the classic pro athlete mistake by reacting on social media. In an Instagram post that has since been deleted, he lashed out.

“To all the people that have a problem with me injured you guys go out there and play this sport, it’s a 100 percent injury rate,” he said. “I’m not the first or last person who’s going to be injured. Stop worrying about my job because I’m good on this end. Losers, most of you, just wish to be in this position, so continue working y’all little jobs for the rest of y’all lives. Since everyone wants a response here, go have a blessed day.”

When he returns to the Bills facility next week, he might need to answer questions about it, and perhaps issue an apology if he doesn’t do so before on social media. Watkins has missed two full games and parts of two others because of a calf injury and then a sprained ankle, and he has only 11 catches for 147 yards and a touchdown.
