Clint Hurtt will remain with the Chicago Bears as their outside linebackers coach, the team announced Tuesday.

Hurtt served as a defensive line assistant last year on the staff of former coach Marc Trestman, who was fired after the season and replaced this month by John Fox.

The Bears’ defense improved its sacks total from 31 in 2013 to 39 in 2014, with defensive linemen responsible for 35 of those last year.

Hurtt was a college assistant before joining the Bears, working as Louisville’s defensive line coach/recruiting coordinator from 2010 to 2013 and at Miami as defensive line coach from 2006 to 2009, a graduate assistant in 2003-04 and a strength and conditioning volunteer in 2001-02. In 2005, he was defensive line coach at Florida International.

The Bears also announced that offensive quality control coaches Brendan Nugent and Carson Walch will not return.
