SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Running back Frank Gore rushed for 119 yards on 24 carries and caught a 55-yard touchdown pass Sunday, leading the San Francisco 49ers to a 26-21 victory against the Philadelphia Eagles at Levi’s Stadium.

Gore carried just six times for 10 yards last week in a 23-14 loss to Arizona, but the 49ers (2-2) made sure to get him the ball early and often as they avoided losing three straight games for the first time under coach Jim Harbaugh.

San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick completed 17 of 30 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

The 49ers outgained the Eagles (3-1) 407 yards to 213 and dominated the time of possession battle, 42:17 to 17:43.

Eagles quarter Nick Foles completed 21 of 42 passes for 195 yards and no touchdowns with one interception. Running back LeSean McCoy carried 10 times for 17 yards

The 49ers capitalized on an Eagles turnover and scored with 8:06 left in the third quarter on Kaepernick’s 12-yard touchdown pass to Stevie Johnson — San Francisco’s first second-half touchdown of the season — cutting Philadelphia’s lead to 21-20.

Johnson’s touchdown was set up when 49ers safety Antoine Bethea forced a fumble by Eagles tight end Zach Ertz and cornerback Perrish Cox recovered at Philadelphia’s 23.

Phil Dawson put the 49ers ahead 23-21 with a 46-yard field goal with 3:33 remaining in the third quarter. Dawson increased San Francisco’s lead to 26-21 with a 31-yard field goal with 6:35 left, capping a 10-play, 46-yard drive that stalled at the Eagles. 12.

Trailing 26-21, the Eagles took over on their 10 with 6:27 left to play and put together their best drive of the game, but San Francisco came up with a goal-line stand, stopping them at the 1-yard-line on downs.

Foles completed passes of 11 yards and 18 yards to wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, moving to Eagles to their 40. Foles hit wide receiver Brad Smith for 11 yards and Ertz for 14, giving Philadelphia a first down at San Francisco 35. Foles’ 22-yard pass to Maclin, who made a one-handed catch, gave the Eagles a first down at the 17, and tight end Jordan Matthews’ 11-yard catch made it first-and-goal from the 6.

After Foles threw incomplete on first down, McCoy gained 5 yards to the 1. On third down, blitzing safety Bethea forced an incomplete pass. Then on fourth down, Foles tried to hit wide receiver Riley Cooper in the back of the end zone, but cornerback Chris Culliver had him blanketed.

The Eagles were outgained 232 yards to 73 in the first half but built a 21-13 lead without getting a single touchdown from their offense.

Philadelphia’s special teams produced two first-half touchdowns. The first came when tight end Trey Burton blocked Andy Lee’s punt, and Smith recovered in the end zone early in the first quarter.

The second came on Darren Sproles’ career-long 82-yard punt return midway through the second quarter.

The Eagles also scored on safety Malcolm Jenkins’ 53-yard interception return of a Kaepernick pass early in the second quarter.

After Smith gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead with 12:19 left in the first quarter, the 49ers answered with Dawson’s 29-yard field goal late in the first.

The 49ers grabbed a 10-7 lead when Kaepernick and Gore hooked up for a 55-yard touchdown. Under pressure, Kaepernick rolled to his left then winged an off-balanced pass to a wide-open Gore at the Eagles 43 along the right sideline.

Gore stiffed-armed safety Early Wolff and raced into the end zone for the longest reception of his career.

Jenkins put the Eagles back ahead 14-10 when Kaepernick tried to hit wide receiver Brandon Lloyd on a crossing route over the middle but, instead, fired a strike to Jenkins, who broke three tackles en route to the end zone with 12:02 left in the half.

Sproles’ 82-yard punt return down the right sideline made the score 21-10 with 8:49 remaining in the quarter.

Dawson drilled a 51-yard field goal with 59 seconds left in the half.
