Jaguars Place Julius Thomas and Jared Odrick On Injured Reserve

The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed seventh-year DE Jared Odrick (shoulder) and sixth-year TEJulius Thomas (back) on the team’s reserve/injured list, the club announced today. With two openings on the 53-man active roster, the club has activated third-year OL Luke Bowanko from the reserve/physically unable to perform list and promoted first-year RB Bronson Hill from the team’s practice squad. Bowanko was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list with a hip injury on Aug. 29 with a torn hip labrum.

Bowanko, 6-6, 310, has appeared in 23 games with 14 starts after originally being drafted by Jacksonville in the sixth round (205th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. In 2015 Bowanko saw action in seven games, primarily on special teams. As a rookie in 2014, Bowanko appeared in all 16 games and made 14 starts at center. Bowanko, a three-year letterman at Virginia, served as a team captain as a senior. A native of Clifton, Va., Bowanko attended Centreville High School where he was a three-year starter for Head Coach Gerry Pannoni.

Hill, 5-10, 215, has spent time with the Bills, Saints, Dolphins, Bears and Bengals before signing with the Jaguars’ practice squad. Hill was originally signed by Buffalo as an undrafted rookie on August 7, 2015. Hill spent the 2016 offseason with the Bengals before being waived during Saturday’s final roster reductions. Hill played four seasons (2011-14) at Eastern Michigan, totaling 2,359 rushing yards, all of those over his last three years. A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Hill attended Catholic Central High School, where he rushed for a school-record 23 TDs as a senior, earning second-team all-state honors.

The Jaguars now have one opening on the team’s 10-man practice squad.
