Source: San Diego Chargers have small-school DE in for a visit

Per a source, small-school standout defensive end Caushaud Lyons of Tusculum had a visit with the San Diego Chargers. Lyons led the Pioneers’ defense with nine sacks which were half of the teams total sack total (18). He also led the team in tackles (89) and tackles for loss (19). The total amount of yards lost between his sacks and tackles for loss equaled 100-yards.

Lyons made the FootballInsiders.com ‘Top FCS Draft Prospects’ list released last month. He was invited to the Medal of Honor All-Star Game allowing him to showcase his skills in front of the watchful eyes of NFL Scouts. The weight-room warrior also holds the Pioneers football team record with a team-best 325 pound clean and jerk. Lyons also benched 475 pounds and squatted 600.

His combination of athletic ability and energy are drawing teams to want to know more about this Division II playmaker. Lyons is a tempo setter making those around him better. His length and long arms are one of his biggest strengths. He uses his hands extremely well that allow him to shed blocks and disrupt the backfield. Lyons (6-foot-4, 290 pounds) played in both a 3-4 and 4-3 defensive scheme in college.
