Sanchez says Tebow just another Eagles camp arm

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez isn’t concerned about Tim Tebow being in camp, downplaying the backup’s recent addition to the roster.

Sanchez said he has been told Tebow was signed as another quarterback to give the receivers some work because starter Sam Bradford is still not 100 percent.

“He’s obviously a great guy, he works hard. And we needed another guy to throw while Sam’s still recovering,” Sanchez told on Friday after taking batting practice with the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. “So that’s the reason (for the signing), at least as explained to me. We’re excited about the upcoming year and I think we have a great group.”

The Eagles signed Tebow on Monday to a one-year contract. He hasn’t played in the NFL since being cut in 2013 by the New England Patriots. He spent last year as a television analyst for the SEC Network.

Tebow and Sanchez were teammates with the New York Jets in 2012. Tebow’s presence as a backup created a quarterback controversy that lasted throughout the season.

Sanchez made eight starts last season after Nick Foles was injured. Foles was traded in the offseason to the St. Louis Rams for Bradford, while Sanchez signed a two-year contract over the offseason to remain with the Eagles.

Sanchez said coach Chip Kelly’s offseason moves hasn’t affected him.

“I knew we were going to have to do something,” he said. “Like I said, it’s going to be a fun year. Coach Kelly knows what he’s doing. Don’t worry too much. It’s only April. Things will fall into place. We’ll be just fine.”
