Report: Ravens sign QB Schaub


The Baltimore Ravens signed quarterback Matt Schaub on Tuesday to back up starter Joe Flacco, according to a report.

Peter King of reported that the deal was in place. No terms of the contract were mentioned.

Schaub spent last season with the Oakland Raiders as a backup behind rookie Derek Carr. According to the Baltimore Sun, Schaub also received interest from the Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans.

The 33-year-old Schaub gives the Ravens a veteran behind Flacco. The only other quarterbacks currently on the Baltimore roster are inexperienced Keith Wenning and Bryn Renner.

Schaub played in 11 games last year for the Raiders but struggled with elbow tendinitis completed only 5 of 10 passes for 57 yards and two interceptions with no touchdowns. He spent the previous seven seasons as the starter for the Houston Texans.

In 11 NFL seasons, Schaub has completed 2,040 of 3,191 passes (63.9 percent) for 24,311 yards and 130 touchdowns iwth 86 interceptions.

The Raiders released Schaub earlier this month after signing Christian Ponder, saving the team $5.5 million against the salary cap.
