The New England Patriots signed rookie cornerback Justin Coleman and released 11 players, including quarterback Ryan Lindley, the team announced Friday.

Coleman, 22, signed with the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent in May of this year. He was released by the Vikings on August 30.

Lindley played the entire game at quarterback for the Patriots in their 12-9 preseason loss to the Giants on Thursday, but he was released one day later. In that game, Lindley completed 22 of 45 passes for 253 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.

In addition, the Patriots released tight end Jake Bequette from the injured reserve list.

They also released four veterans besides Lindley — offensive lineman Ryan Groy, offensive lineman Caylin Hauptmann, linebacker James Morris and defensive lineman Casey Walker.

The Patriots released two first-year players — offensive lineman Chris Martin and defensive lineman A.J. Pataiali’I — and three rookie free agents — running back Tony Creecy, wide receiver Zach D’Orazio and wide receiver DaVaris Daniels.
