Giants sign WR Jones

The New York Giants signed wide receiver James Jones to a one-year deal on Friday.

Jones, 31, led the Oakland Raiders with a career-best 73 receptions last season, but the Raiders released him in May after signing former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree and drafting Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper with the fourth overall pick.

Jones had signed a three-year, $10 million deal with the Raiders last year after seven years with the Green Bay Packers.

Jones led the NFL with 14 touchdown receptions in 2012 and has averaged 48 catches, 620 yards and five scores per year.

Jones will be reunited with former Packers assistant Ben McAdoo, who is in his second year as the Giants’ offensive coordinator.

“I remember the great year he had, and then last year he caught a number of balls, he led the Oakland team,” coach Tom Coughlin said. “He’s a veteran receiver, outstanding hands, been in this system, knows the system well, should fit in well, and should compete.”
