Cutler overcomes adversity in win against Raiders

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Though obviously limited in mobility, quarterback Jay Cutler had the chance to win accolades for toughness, if not resiliency, in Sunday’s 22-20 victory over the Oakland Raiders.

On one hand, the late comeback win provided Cutler with a chance to answer critics who point to all the big mistakes he makes in big moments. On the other hand, he also had made the game-winning scoring drive necessary with yet another big mistake at a crucial time – throwing an interception to longtime antagonist Charles Woodson to ignite a 91-yard Oakland go-ahead drive.

Asked how he got over the feeling of “here we go again,” Cutler responded, “I don’t really think about that.”

The interception quickly became a memory.

“Can’t linger on it, can’t worry about it because we got a shot and guys are depending on me to go out there and get it done,” he said.

While Cutler may be a polarizing figure in Chicago, he does have his supporters on the team even if he makes mistakes. One compared Cutler to another leader with the initials J.C.

“They threw rocks at Jesus and Jesus was an excellent guy who did a lot of awesome stuff,” tight end Martellus Bennett said.
