The San Diego Chargers brought back tight end John Phillips on Thursday.

The seventh-year veteran had been released last weekend when the team reduced its roster to 53 players.

Over the last two seasons, Phillips has played in 31 games for the Chargers, starting seven.

A sixth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2009, he has played in 79 games, catching 35 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns.

To make room for Phillips, the Chargers waived rookie tackle Tyreek Burwell.
