The Denver Broncos spotted their target and went up and got him as they selected Shane Ray with the 23rd overall pick.

“The Denver Broncos are serious about getting to the quarterback as Shane Ray teams up with Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware.   Clearly Denver isn’t concerned about Ray’s marijuana arrest and fortunately to Shane he goes to a state where it is legal.  Still, I thought Denver would try to address the offensive line in what is likely to be Peyton Manning’s final season.”

“Shane Ray plus DeMarcus Ware plus Von Miller makes me pity the fool who plays quarterback against the Broncos. Also, it doesn’t matter if he has weed in the car in Colorado.” – Alex Hickey

“Many believed Shane Ray’s marijuana arrest on Monday would have caused him to fall out of the first-round, but when it came down to it, he has too much physical ability at a premiere position for every team to pass on him. Ray is a top-10 pick if not for his foot injury or arrest, and the Denver Broncos got a fantastic pass rusher who will help immediately. DeMarcus Ware is almost finished, and the Broncos now have another dynamic end who can line up across from Von Miller for years to come. Also, marijuana is legal in Colorado, so there’s that.”- Pat Donovan

“So you say teams were supposed to be turned off by Shane Ray’s marijuana arrest this week? Clearly the Denver Broncos were not, as they made the biggest leap in the draft, sacrificing center Manny Ramirez and a couple fifth round picks to jump five spots and grab Ray. It probably did cost Ray some money, as he was rumored to be a Top 10 pick prior to the arrest, but I’m not sure he’d have gone above Bud Dupree anyway. All joking about Ray and Denver’s legal weed aside, this is a great fit for both. It’s a solid situation for Ray to mature in, surrounded by veteran players on both sides of the ball, and he has the explosiveness and endless motor to be an elite pass rushing talent that only makes the Broncos defense that much more dangerous.” – Devon Jeffreys
