Bengals Release Kicker Mike Nugent; Sign Randy Bullock

The Bengals made a move at kicker as they claimed Randy Bullock off waivers from the Steelers and let go of Ohio native Mike Nugent.

From the Bengals press release:

*Acquired K Randy Bullock on a waiver claim from Pittsburgh.

Bullock (5-9, 206; Texas A&M) is a fifth-year NFL player. He has played in 45 NFL games, making 78 of 96 field goal attempts (81.3 percent) and 91 of 95 PATs (95.8 percent). His longest made FG has been 55 yards, equaling the Bengals’ all-time record.

In 2016, Bullock has kicked for the New York Giants in their season opener (two-for-three on PATs) and for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 4 against the Giants, as a replacement for injured K Chris Boswell. Bullock was three-for-three on FGs for the Steelers (44, 34, 38) and made his only PAT try. He was waived by Pittsburgh yesterday, with Boswell having returned to action on Dec. 11 at Buffalo.

Bullock entered the NFL in 2012 as a fifth-round draft choice by Houston. He spent his rookie season on the Reserve/Injured list but kicked for the Texans in every game in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, he opened with Houston, kicking in three games, and later signed with the New York Jets, kicking in their final eight games. He had two game-winning FGs for Jets in 2015 – 31 yards in OT for 23-20 win at the Giants and 40 yards at 0:36 for 19-16 win at Dallas. He became a free agent after the ’15 season and signed with the Giants during the ’16 preseason.
*Terminated the contract of K Mike Nugent, releasing him to free agency.

A 12th-year NFL player, Nugent joined the Bengals in 2010 as a free agent and played in 98 games over his seven years with the team. Nugent played in 13 games this season, going 23-for-29 on FG attempts and 23-for-29 on PATs.

“Mike is a tremendous teammate and has been an integral part of the Bengals for seven seasons,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. “This was a difficult decision, but one we felt was in the best interest of the football team moving forward. We have enjoyed getting to know Mike over the years and wish him the best.”

Nugent passed the 1000-point mark for his NFL career (now at 1052) this season. Nugent’s 132 points and 33 FGs in 2011 are Bengals season records, and he shares the team mark for longest regular-season FG (55 yards).

Nugent is a Southwest Ohio native, having starred at Centerville High School before going on to Ohio State, where he was a two-time All-American.
